How washer & dryer removal works in San Diego

1 · Send a photo

Snap the washer, dryer or water heater and where it sits — laundry closet, garage wall or a second-floor laundry room. You get an exact flat price back in seconds, no in-home estimate.

2 · Shut off & pick a time

Have the machines unplugged and know the water shutoff (a gas dryer or plumbed water heater should be shut off by a pro first). Choose a window — same-day is often open across the county.

3 · We disconnect & carry out

A vetted, insured hauler unhooks the hoses, carries the units out of the laundry room or garage, and recycles the metal. You lift nothing and nothing goes to the curb.

How much does washer & dryer removal cost in San Diego?

Flat and photo-quoted before anyone drives — the disconnect, the two-person carry-out, and the disposal are already in the number. For comparison, national cost guides put a traditional full-service appliance removal in San Diego at roughly $100–$250 after a minimum and an in-home estimate. Ours is a flat price from a photo, the disconnect and metal recycling included, and we carry the units out for you.

Dishwasher$109
Dryer (electric or gas)$128
Water heater (tank)$131
Water heater (tankless)$90

$75 minimum. Disconnect help, stairs and garage carries included — no surcharge. Doing the whole laundry room, or a washer-dryer plus the old water heater in the garage? Send one photo and we'll price the lot. No CA sales tax on the service — the flat price is all-in.

Does San Diego pick up washers and dryers?

For most of the city, no. Under the century-old People's Ordinance, the City of San Diego only ever collected from single-family homes with city-street access, so if you're in a downtown condo, a Pacific Beach apartment or a Chula Vista rental, the city has never hauled your washer. Measure B (2022) began charging a fee and unwinding that through 2025–2026, but even for eligible houses the bulky option is limited and appointment-only, and it certainly won't disconnect a plumbed machine or clear a laundry room on your schedule — confirm your address with Environmental Services at 858-694-7000. The real snag with laundry appliances is the hookup: a washer is on water lines, a dryer may be gas, a water heater is both plumbed and often hardwired. That's not a curb item you slide out and forget. We handle the disconnect and the two-person carry, take it same-day, and recycle the metal — all in the flat price.

What we take

  • Washers — top-load and front-load, standard and high-capacity; we unhook the hoses and carry it out.
  • Dryers — electric and gas (gas shut off by a pro first), including the vent-clogged old workhorse.
  • Stacked & combo units — laundry towers and all-in-one washer-dryers, separated to clear a tight closet.
  • Water heaters — tank and tankless, often wedged in a tight garage closet or utility nook.
  • Dishwashers — kitchen swaps and remodel tear-outs, uninstalled and hauled.

What happens to your washer & dryer after pickup

Laundry appliances are mostly steel and other metals, so the great majority of what we haul is recycled as scrap — the drum, the motor, the cabinet, the copper. Only the small non-recyclable remainder is disposed at a San Diego–served facility like the Miramar Landfill. Because the county's disposal is moderate and there's no add-on refuse tax, and because we scrap the metal, doing it right doesn't inflate your quote — the flat price already covers the disconnect, the carry, the recycling and the disposal, with no separate fee and no California sales tax on top. A washer or dryer that still runs can also be pointed toward donation where a partner will take it.

Laundry closets, garage hookups and the suburban SFH belt

San Diego's washer-and-dryer jobs live in the single-family belts — the 1950s ranch houses of Clairemont, the 1970s–80s homes of Mira Mesa, the master-planned homes of Carmel Valley and Scripps Ranch, and the South Bay houses of Chula Vista and National City — where the laundry pair usually lives in the garage (no basements here) or a tight interior closet, and the water heater is tucked into a garage nook beside it. That's a real disconnect-and-carry across a driveway or down a stair, not a slide to the curb. We plan the path from your photo, protect the floors and door frames on the way out, and handle the freight elevator and COI in the downtown and Mission Valley condos where a laundry unit has to ride the dock. In the HOA and gated suburbs we load straight from the garage so nothing sits at the curb. The access is handled and the flat price doesn't move.

When people call us for washer & dryer removal

  • Laundry upgrade — the new front-load pair arrives and the old set has to be gone the same day.
  • The unit failed — a washer that won't drain, a dryer that quit heating, a water heater that leaked across the garage.
  • Move-out & PCS turnover — a landlord or a Navy family clearing the machines a new tenant won't want.
  • Remodel tear-out — dishwasher, washer, dryer and old water heater cleared before the contractor starts.
  • Garage cleanout — the busted old set finally leaving the garage wall to free up the space.

Why San Diego chooses JunkRabbit for laundry appliances

  • Flat price from a photo — the number you see is the number you pay; no in-home estimate, no CA sales tax.
  • We handle the disconnect — hoses unhooked and the two-person carry done for you on standard units.
  • We carry it out — full-service, not curbside; nothing gets dragged to the curb.
  • Metal recycled — machines scrapped, not dumped, which is exactly why the price stays fair.
  • Same-day when a slot's open, across the city and the South Bay.
