Garage Cleanout in
San Diego

There are no basements in San Diego — the garage is where it all lives. Years of furniture, tools, boxes, beach and camping gear, the dead second fridge, the canyon-lot yard stuff that crept inside. We clear a full two- or three-car garage in one same-day truck-fill, load it straight from the bay, and hand you one flat photo-quoted price from $241. Donation, recycling and freon recovery included. No CA sales tax on the service.

How a garage cleanout works in San Diego

1 · Send a photo

Snap the garage — every bay, the packed shelves, the loft, the corner you can't reach. A flat truck-fill price comes back in seconds, no in-home walkthrough.

2 · Pick a window

Choose a time — same-day is often open across the city and the suburbs. Flag anything that's staying; everything else is fair game.

3 · We clear it out

A vetted, insured crew empties the bay, sorts donation from recycling from disposal, recovers freon on any old fridge, and sweeps up. You park your car again.

How much does a garage cleanout cost in San Diego?

Garages price as flat truck-fill — you pay for the share of the truck your things actually fill, quoted from a photo before anyone drives. The labor, the load-out, the drive and the disposal are already in it. A single-car clear-out usually lands in the lower tiers; a packed two-car or a three-car garage runs to the top. For comparison, national cost guides put a traditional full-service truck-fill at roughly $550–$850+ after a minimum and an on-site estimate — ours is a flat photo number with donation and freon routing included and no CA sales tax.

How full the truckFlat price
Quarter load — a corner clear-out$241
Light single-car garage$338
Half a two-car garage$431
Packed single-car garage$513
Light two-car garage$587
Packed two-car garage$661
Full two-car / three-car garage$732

$75 minimum. Disposal included; usable furniture donated, appliances refrigerant-recovered where required, metal and e-waste recycled. Single items price flat too — a fridge is $164, a washer $133, a treadmill $115. No CA sales tax on the service — the flat price is all-in.

No basements — so the garage carries everything

Homes in most of the country bury the clutter in a basement. San Diego doesn't build them. From the postwar single-story tracts of Clairemont, Bay Park, San Carlos and Allied Gardens to the master-planned two- and three-car garages of Carmel Valley, Scripps Ranch, Rancho Bernardo and Otay Ranch, the garage is the only big storage room a San Diego house has — and it fills up accordingly. When we clear one, it's usually some mix of:

  • Furniture & boxes — the spare sofa and dresser, stacked moving boxes and bins that never got unpacked.
  • Tools & workbench — decades of hand and power tools, hardware, lumber offcuts and the bench itself.
  • Beach, camping & sports gear — surfboards, kayaks, tents, coolers, bikes, an old grill and patio set.
  • Appliances — the dead second fridge, a chest freezer, an old washer and dryer, a window AC (freon recovered).
  • Paint, chemicals & yard gear — half-used cans, a mower, and the canyon-lot green waste that migrated inside.

We load from the garage — HOA-safe, curb-free

A packed garage sits for years because it's an overwhelming job to face alone: there's nowhere to stage it, no basement to shuffle it into, and much of it is heavy. So we don't ask you to pre-sort or drag anything out. Our crew works straight out of the bay — pulling furniture, boxes, tools and appliances across the driveway and onto the truck, keeping the path clear and protecting the door frame and any finished floor. This also matters in San Diego's HOA suburbs — Carmel Valley, Scripps Ranch, Rancho Bernardo, 4S Ranch, Otay Ranch and EastLake all restrict curbside staging. Because we load from the home and nothing ever hits the curb, there's nothing for the association to flag. You point out what stays; we take the rest.

Will the city clear my garage?

A lot of San Diegans assume the city will come haul the big stuff. It mostly won't. Under San Diego's century-old People's Ordinance and the newer Measure B rollout (2022, phasing in a fee through 2025–2026), even an eligible single-family home gets only a limited, appointment-only bulky option — nothing that will empty a packed garage on your schedule — and apartments and condos get no municipal pickup at all. The city itself points residents to WasteFreeSD or self-haul rather than an on-demand truck; you can confirm eligibility with Environmental Services at 858-694-7000. For a real garage cleanout, waiting on the city isn't a plan. Full-service is: we carry everything out of the bay, load it, and hand you one flat price scheduled around you, often same-day.

When San Diego calls for a garage cleanout

  • Aging in place — clearing decades out of the bay so an original owner can park or make room for a caregiver.
  • Relocation & downsizing — paring down before a move to a smaller place, another city, or out of the area.
  • Selling the house — a broom-clean garage (and often the whole home) before it lists.
  • Pre-ADU conversion — emptying the garage to the walls before a granny-flat build begins.
  • Reclaiming the space — turning a storage bay back into a workshop, a gym, or a spot for the car.

Why San Diego chooses JunkRabbit for garage cleanouts

  • Flat truck-fill from a photo — the number you see is the number you pay; no on-site estimate, no CA sales tax.
  • Loaded from the garage — full-service, not curbside; you don't sort, stage or carry anything.
  • HOA-safe — nothing hits the curb, so Carmel Valley, Scripps Ranch and Otay Ranch associations have nothing to flag.
  • Freon & recycling handled — certified refrigerant recovery, e-waste, metal and mattress recycling, all in the price.
  • Same-day when a slot's open, done in a single visit.

What San Diego customers say

★★★★★

"Three-car garage in Scripps Ranch packed to the rafters — no basement, so twenty years of everything ended up in there. They cleared it in one afternoon, loaded from the garage, donated the good furniture. One flat price from a couple of photos, and nothing ever touched the curb for the HOA to see."

— Greg & Nina P., Scripps Ranch
★★★★★

"Emptying the garage before turning it into a granny flat. They cleared it to the walls, took the old workbench and the dead freezer with the freon, and coordinated with my contractor's start date. Flat truck-fill price, done same day."

— Daniel R., Carmel Valley
★★★★★

"Downsizing out of our San Carlos home of forty years and the single-car garage was the worst of it. They handled the whole thing, sorted donation from recycling, and I didn't lift a box. Fair flat price, no tax added."

— Carol M., San Carlos

San Diego garage cleanout — FAQ

How much does a garage cleanout cost in San Diego?

Flat truck-fill from a photo: quarter $241, half $431, light two-car $587, full two-/three-car $732 (fractions $338, $513, $661 in between). $75 minimum, disposal included, no CA sales tax.

Why the garage and not the basement?

San Diego homes have no basements — the garage is the only big storage space, so it holds everything. Clearing it is the most common cleanout we do here.

Do you load from the garage?

Yes — straight from the bay. You don't pre-sort, stage or carry anything, and nothing sits at the curb, which keeps HOA suburbs happy.

Can you clear a garage for an ADU conversion?

Yes — cleared to the walls and coordinated with your contractor; we can take construction debris in the same trip.

Will the city clear it instead?

Only a thin, appointment-only option for eligible houses; nothing for apartments/condos. Environmental Services is 858-694-7000. Full-service clears it on your schedule.
