SDSU Student Move-Out
Junk Removal

The SDSU belt (92115) — student apartments, the "mini-dorm" houses, and the established-family homes of Del Cerro and Allied Gardens (92120). SDSU housing move-out lands mid-May 2026, and every off-campus lease seems to end the same week, so the neighborhood fills with mattresses, couches, and mini-fridges nobody can move. We clear the whole unit — often same-day — for one flat photo-quoted price. Book ahead for move week, because it fills up fast.

Built for the mid-May SDSU move-out

The College Area runs on the SDSU calendar, and the single biggest spike of the year is move-out in mid-May 2026. When the residence halls close and the off-campus leases turn over at nearly the same time, the whole neighborhood empties at once: mattresses, couches, futons, mini-fridges, desks, and cheap furniture pile up on porches and in alleys faster than anyone can deal with them. That's precisely the window we're built for — fast, whole-apartment and whole-house clears, often same-day, photo-quoted to one flat number. And because so much of what students leave behind is still perfectly usable, we route the good pieces to donation instead of the landfill, which is the right thing to do and keeps more out of the trash.

It's not only students. The College Area shades into Del Cerro and Allied Gardens (92120), established 1950s–60s single-family neighborhoods where longtime owners are downsizing and clearing decades out of the garage — a steadier, year-round job alongside the seasonal student wave. Whichever one you are, the deal is the same: send a photo, get a flat price that already covers the labor, the truck, the drive, and the disposal, with no California sales tax on the service.

What we clear in the College Area

  • Whole student-apartment move-outs — studios to shared units, cleared in one flat-priced window before the walkthrough.
  • Mini-dorm & student-house clear-outs — the whole house cleared as one truck-fill, roommates split the flat price.
  • Mattresses, couches, futons & mini-fridges — the single most common move-out hauls, recycled and donated where possible.
  • Desks, dressers & cheap furniture — dorm and apartment pieces, donation-routed.
  • Del Cerro & Allied Gardens garage downsizing — established-family SFH garages cleared as truck-fill, loaded from the garage.

Four ways to clear a student apartment in the College Area

There's more than one way to get rid of the furniture at lease-end — but for an apartment full of it on a deadline, most of the options fall short. Here's the honest rundown. (For reference, national franchises like 1-800-GOT-JUNK average around $240 for a small load in San Diego, and local single-item pickups often run $99–$160.)

OptionCostSpeedEffortBest for
City of San Diego pickup—Not available—No one — apartments get no municipal bulky pickup
Donation drop-offFreeDays; must haul it yourselfYou lift & drive itA couple of good, clean pieces
Self-haul to MiramarDump + truck rentalA whole dayAll on youOne carload, if you have a truck
Traditional junk removal$150–$600+, often quoted on-site1–2 daysThey carry itBigger loads, if you'll wait for a quote
JunkRabbitFlat, from a photoOften same-dayWe carry it allWhole-unit move-out, no lifting, known price up front

The difference on move week: we give you the exact flat price from a photo before we arrive, come during the crush, and carry every piece out of the unit — you don't drag a mattress to the curb and hope.

Does San Diego pick up couches and mattresses from student apartments?

No — and this trips up a lot of students. San Diego's trash system runs on the century-old People's Ordinance, and the newer Measure B only changes it slowly: the city collects from eligible single-family homes, and even those get only a limited, appointment-only bulky option (residents are pointed to self-haul or WasteFreeSD; the Environmental Services line is 858-694-7000). Apartments and condos — which is most student housing in the College Area — get no municipal bulky pickup at all. So a couch or a mattress left in a 92115 apartment isn't going anywhere on its own; there's no curb program to catch it, and leaving it out just risks a landlord charge against the deposit. That's the gap we fill: a private, full-service crew that comes to the unit, carries everything out, and quotes one flat price up front — the on-demand option the city simply doesn't offer here.

Book ahead for move week

Mid-May is the busiest stretch of the year in the College Area, full stop. Every lease ends within days of the SDSU housing move-out, and the same handful of haulers get slammed all at once — so the single best thing you can do is book a week or two ahead of your lease-end date to lock a window. It costs nothing extra, it takes the panic out of the last day, and it means the truck shows up when you actually need it instead of whenever a slot opens. Roommates, do it together: clearing the whole mini-dorm or student house as one truck-fill and splitting the flat price is almost always cheaper than everyone booking separate single-item pickups, and it's one visit instead of five. We still take same-day jobs during the crush whenever we can — but a reserved window is one less thing between you and the walkthrough.

What College Area customers say

★★★★★

"My lease ended the same week as SDSU move-out and the apartment was full of stuff I couldn't move — mattress, couch, mini-fridge, a broken desk. Booked a few days ahead, they came on move day, flat price from a photo, gone. Got my deposit back clean."

— Jordan M., College Area
★★★★★

"Five of us in a mini-dorm off Montezuma, all moving out at once. They cleared the whole house as one load and we split the flat price — way cheaper than each of us booking separately. One visit, done."

— Alexa T., SDSU
★★★★★

"Not a student — we're in Del Cerro and finally cleared out 25 years of garage. Loaded straight from the garage, good stuff donated, one flat number. Easy and no surprises."

— Robert & Jean H., Del Cerro
