Hillcrest
Dense, walkable Uptown (92103) — 1920s courtyard buildings and no-elevator walk-ups, condos, and mid-rises, San Diego's historic LGBTQ+ hub, wrapped around the medical district. Here the signature job is the apartment move-out carried down the stairs: no elevator, multiple flights, brutal parking — and no surcharge for any of it. Mattress and couch together, flat price up front, and usually same-day.
Carried down the stairs — no surcharge, flat price
Hillcrest is one of the densest rental cores in San Diego, and the housing tells you why the work looks the way it does: block after block of 1920s courtyard apartments and no-elevator walk-ups, plus newer condos and mid-rises, all packed around University Avenue and Fifth. It is a high-turnover neighborhood — young professionals, students, medical-district workers at UCSD Hillcrest and Scripps Mercy — so leases end constantly, and every move-out leaves the heavy stuff behind. The problem is never the couch itself. It is getting the couch down three flights of a courtyard building with no elevator, out to a street where there is nowhere to park.
That is exactly the job we are built for, and it is why our pricing matters here more than anywhere. Other haulers quote you low and then tack on a stair fee, a second-floor fee, a "no parking" fee on the day. We don't. The flat price you get from a photo already covers the multi-flight carry-down and the parking hunt — you never get surprised at the door. We do all the lifting from inside the unit, take the pieces down the stairs ourselves, and figure out the spot to load. And because San Diego apartments have no basement and rarely any real storage, the closet and the balcony are where the extra furniture and boxes pile up — we clear those too, in the same trip.
What we haul in Hillcrest
- Apartment & lease-end move-outs — mattress and couch together, plus the leftovers, carried down the stairs same-day.
- Condo cleanouts — move-outs, estates, and downsizing, cleared as truck-fill; COI and service-elevator handled in mid-rises.
- Single heavy pieces — a sofa, a mattress, a dresser, a recliner, a TV, out of a fourth-floor walk-up.
- Appliances — mini-fridges, washers, dryers, and window AC units, with refrigerant recovered where required.
- Closet & balcony clear-outs — the boxes, old electronics, and clutter with nowhere else to live.

The city won't pick up your apartment furniture
This is the Hillcrest reality most renters learn the hard way: the City of San Diego does not collect bulky items from apartments and condos at all. Under the old People's Ordinance the city only ever hauled from single-family homes with street access, and even after Measure B began changing that in 2022, the city still does not run a robust on-demand bulky pickup — eligible houses get a thin, appointment-only option and multifamily buildings get nothing municipal. In a neighborhood that is almost entirely apartments and condos, that means a mattress or a couch on move-out day is completely on you.
That is the gap we fill — full-service, same-day, carried down the stairs, so you never leave a mattress on the sidewalk hoping the city shows up (it won't, and you can be cited for it). Usable furniture is donation-routed to Goodwill, the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and Father Joe's Villages; mattresses go to free Bye Bye Mattress recycling at Miramar; TVs and electronics to free California e-waste. Handled honestly, not just dumped.
What Hillcrest customers say
"Third-floor walk-up off University, no elevator, and I had a queen mattress and a heavy sleeper sofa to move on lease-end day. They carried both down the stairs, handled the parking, and it was one flat price from a photo — no stair fee, no surprises. Same day."
"Cleared my condo near Scripps Mercy before I relocated for a fellowship. Whole unit, flat truck-fill price, and they booked the service elevator and handled the building's COI. Fast, professional, zero stress on a tight timeline."
"Old courtyard building, four flights, impossible parking. They quoted flat from photos and it didn't change a dollar at the door. Couch, dresser, and a pile of boxes gone in under an hour. Exactly what they said."
